Why are you doing these surveys? What are your intentions with the data? Do you have any form of ethical board approval?

I'm curious! I've been doing surveys on various things for years. I plan to publish an analysis of the data on my blog (or somewhere). I don't know if ethics boards approve of me but I haven't asked them.

Are you compensating the sex working participants? Are you conscientious of the potential ethical issues and implications of gathering such data? Are you going to pursue approval from an ethics board?

I'm not offering money; if sex workers don't want to do a survey for free then they don't have to! I'm careful and very private with the data I have, and trust that people won't give me their data if they don't want to. I have no intention to ever deal with ethics boards.

okay ya,still see major ethical issues at play here and that area wasn’t addressed in your reply. Did you consult with current sex workers before making this survey live? With so many sex workers suffering in light of COVID-19, why solicit free labor instead of actually helping?

I do what feels good! What feels good is helping people and learning things. Hurting people feels bad.
I'm an ex sex worker. I also have zero issues with people filling out my surveys for free, as long as they don't have expectation of payment, and consent to it.

How does this ‘help people’ — especially, as I already said, during the plight of COVID-19? And yes, compensation in some form is an important aspect of ethical research w. sex workers. Being a former SWer does not give u a pass from critique. Says me: a sex working SW researcher

It doesn't help anybody specifically with COVD-19. I never meant it to, I have no intention to help people with the virus through my research on sex workers, idk why it's relevant. And I never compensate for my surveys, if you don't like it then don't take my surveys.

Idk why informed consent still isn't good enough for you, it's like the only valid form of information gathering has to be when it's paid, even if all parties involved are consenting to exchanging that information freely.

Re: COVID-19 “Idk why it’s relevant” There is no such thing as social science research devoid of context in its surrounding cultural climate. And to insist otherwise is extremely tone deaf, especially during a once in a lifetime pandemic.
