i dont understand why everybody with any significant following on twitter isn't doing long-form surveys all the time

Lol, it's funny running into this. Your follower base is an exception, your "thing" is questioning. For many of us, that's not the brand, so the follower base won't tolerate too much of it.

This is legitimately confusing to me. In what way won't they tolerate it? Like, they don't like answering questions and will ignore the survey? Or they'll get mad at you?

Mad and unfollow. Unless you've specifically cultivated an audience that is open to these things, they'll think of it as spam. When I ask fanciful questions, for example, I lose followers (not much, but enough that I notice).

the only time i’ve ever participated in a survey is if it relates to something that directly affects me or I get something in return, though not so much the second one anymore— but free shit is free shit 💁🏻‍♀️
