You predict, in America in 2018, the top 1% paid ____ of all federal income taxes

The bottom 30% pay almost nothing in federal taxes. Shameful.

Poor people should pay more taxes? Because they aren't poor enough yet I guess. They also pay plenty of taxes, they just don't pay federal income tax because they don't make much money. They pay FICA, state taxes, sales taxes, and many other taxes.

The bottom 50% of earners in US pay only 2.8% of federal taxes. Nowhere is it more skewed than in America! high earners are taxed way too much and middle earners are taxed way too little! https://bit.ly/3dikE9t

And it's a shame that this money isn't going directly to help the poor; can you imagine if government bureaucracy didn't absorb all the wealth of the 1%? The percentage of benefit that the bottom poorest actually receive is negligible compared to the amount the top are paying.

Too much tax money goes to fed govt boondoggles. The fed govt has mind-boggling massive bureaucracies in Washington DC, northern Virginia, Maryland. The 'workers' vote Democrat. They get high pay and Cadillac benefits. They are by and large lazy, entitled, and produce little

i personally believe public works and public life is inherently valuable and people ought to be fighting for stronger democratic institutions... should we just let the rich people be our monarchs and give us an allowance?

the moderately high earners are paying way too much in taxes. And the money isn't going to public works and public life. Look at US's crumbling infrastructure. Our money goes to pay crooks in federal government, who cook up schemes to enrich themselves.

Poor people are selected for being bad with money though. Possibly even worse than the government.

Wait, "all the wealth of the 1%"? More like an amount they can only notice is missing on paper.

This seems like one of the major problems with socialism. Good intentions, but government bureaucrats aren’t good at spending money.

Yes, and it's by the nature of that system. Impossible to avoid, due to economic info, calc, and coord problems. The State has no profit, loss signals nor incentives, which is extremely important in managing resources. Plus, the State is a forced monopoly, compounding the issue.
