How would you rank in terms of community? Does community outweigh financial?

It's hard because the community sort of feels 'outside' the city; in at least 2 cases I was with a group that wanted to live together and chose that city to move to, which feels much less a representation of that city than my group.

Bremerton over San Diego. Brutal. I only go to Bremerton to take people visiting to see Navy stuff.

I lived right on the water and it was really gorgeous, plus it was just a quick ferry ride straight to downtown Seattle. And cheap! San Diego, drive *everywhere*. I lived in Escondido which made it worse.

I have experience with your Top 6 (minus Boston), but for some reason San Francisco really did not do it for me. Selecting from the cities on your list I've been to, my ranking would be: 5. San Francisco 4. Seattle 3. New York 2. Portland 1. Melbourne
-
Oh wait, did you mean Melbourne, AUS? You disambiguated Moscow with "ID", so I assumed by leaving off "FL" you meant Australia. My list was referring to the Melbourne down under :P

Zurich is my favorite b/c the quality of life. Every city in America lacks this.

Not a single foreign city? You’re missing out big time on some crucial experience.

I've spent maybe 2 years abroad, just most countries i stayed in were around 6 weeks max at one time so I didn't count that as living.
