I don't understand when people say "This doesn't happen" in regards to people taking advantage of cultural norms. Like, how can you say false rape accusations don't happen? There will always be a type of person who figures out ways to take advantage of any norm, no matter how-

good. People will make false rape accusations in a metoo world, and people will rape in a 'boy's club' world. There's always gonna be an insane trans person who molests someone in a bathroom, as well as an insane cis person who assaults a trans person cause they're insecure. -

Just because your narrative is 'good' (believe victims!) doesn't mean it's impervious. As soon as you institute a rule, it can be used for nefarious purposes.
This doesn't mean we shouldn't make good rules, only that we should be open to admitting the limitations of those rules.

I find it’s usually short hand for “this doesn’t happen at a scale that warrants the same concern or analysis.” Maybe not the most useful way to say that but I understand the frustration from trying to discuss systemic issues as others regularly concern troll with exceptions.

The short hand is bad and explicitly wrong and does more harm than good. Simply saying "This rarely happens" would be way freaking better. Saying it never happens is literally a lie and no shit people don't trust you after that.

If you are reasonable and see both sides, and i'm unreasonable and see only my interests. When we negotiate and try to find a middle ground the result will be closer to my interests

The way that online communication activates an elevated level of cognitive dissonance within people is so striking that I must observe such antics and mildly react by punching out another A+ Tweet.

It’s typically shorthand for “this is at least 1-2 orders of magnitude less common than you claim it is”
