If you press the button, all nations everywhere magically lose the ability to have any further immigration, save for a very small number of people who pass stringent tests (e.g., job/income/education), with a slightly less stringent standard for refugees.

If this includes restricting international travel for other reasons besides immigration my answer instantly becomes a hard no.

Shocked at this poll tbh. Nations and borders are so fictive in my brain that I can’t believe anyone would give them any weight or power at all.

I do support essentially this policy for my own country right now, but I wouldn't impose it on all countries at all times.

Nah, I'd sooner press a button that made refugee status impossible, and working visas/residency permits moderately easier.
UN refugee treaty has been abused to the death in all but name of some nations. It drains domestic resources and only incentivises failure and strife.

Everything is so much more complicated than you put in a twitter poll. It's an interesting question and I actually favor reduced immigration but I am leery of magical absolutes.

I think nations should have the ability to set and enforce policy - should be the collective choice of the people there. Locking all nations into a no seems almost as terrible as forcing all nations to have open borders.

Pretty surprised by how many "yes" votes there are. It'd cause an economic dark-age.
