Human beings were not meant to learn about the world in the way we make them learn. I hate that discourse around public school and college is focused on funding them MORE rather than stopping all the horrible stuff we do/finding an alternative

I used to think that. But one thing I learned since having kids is that social/peer pressure *can* be incredibly effective at getting (neurotypical) kids to learn stuff that is both useful to them and also unlikely for them to pick up if undirected.

One-on-one learning and self directed learning are also important, and I do think that school is not so good at facilitating that, but ideally kids get some of that at home. The school schedule a bit of a slog through.

In my ideal world parents would only work 3-4 days a week and thus kids would only go to school 3-4 days a week leaving more time for other kinds of learning, but this is not the world we live in.

I dont see why a parent needs to play any role at all in childrens education. Why would they? I am an expert at a few things that my parents know nothing about and didnt help in at all, my parents are for love and joy. Why tie education too that??

Moms and dads dont help with piano lessons, or mma training, or skateboarding. They support you ofc that is what they are for. Most peope are AWFUL teachers and should not ever be involved in it. Parents are people and so most are necessarily bad teachers

I was homeschooled and all the things I'm good at beyond my parents knowledge are self taught
