Bad fight in public probably worse, especially as a straight guy I think as many will assume you're in the wrong and may intervene. If you cry you'll most likely be left alone and can find a corner. Heuristics though, so making broad assumptions.

A bad period in college where I cried multiple times a day, every day, for a couple months, was pretty effective in desensitizing me to being seen crying by strangers
