Has anybody had to deal with somebody who's got erotomania at you? How did you handle it?

By ghosting them. Doubt this will help you though, since it's the most obvious option and I'm sure you thought of it and there are reasons why it isn't possible.

The people who have erotomania at me *think* I'm responding secretly to them with my tweets and blog posts, so me actually not responding to them doesn't help. It's not a reasonable disorder.

If their mania is aggressive/threatening, I’d avoid engaging. But less severe cases I would suggest talking over at an agreed place, with 1-2 other people around as referees. If they’re not threatening or aggressive, it may be possible to get them out of their own head.

No, these people are severely delusional and I would absolutely never ever meet with them. It's a legitimate mental disorder, like schizophrenia, you can't just talk someone out of schizophrenia.

remind them that the object of their obsession is not actually your self, but an image, a likeness
images evolve; encourage theirs to evolve away from your likeness
