A breathwork guide was telling me about "reliving my birth trauma" and I realized why this shit bothers me: it's a New Age spin on Calvinist Original Sin doctrine, aka the dumbest part of ✝️. We're all born traumatized, doomed to eternal but incomplete "healing".

i think very early trauma is very plausibly a thing but as usual i don't feel the need to try to convince any one of this who doesn't want to be convinced

trauma is a narrative! any time we have to twist to figure out how trauma might actually come from somewhere hard to see then the narrative feels inelegant to me
can concretely & directly walk (baby) sensory imprinting with right method, clear as day, with e.g. meditation
& then label some structural patterns trauma & others not, in part by functional downstream effects
but yeah can be thought-stopping label w/ knock-on (societal) harm

I'm differentiating between two pretty similar things; learned behavior as a response to pain is not the same as 'trauma' in this particular way I'm using it (though I'm happy to use another word of that works). I mean the way people use the word.

I mean, it's hardly objectionable for me that your first impression of the world can leave a strong impact. Like, isn't the whole deal of childhood that it's a very vulnerable age where we absorb the way the world works and build our models from there?
