A mother (of older boy, younger girl) has always promised the heirloom necklace to her daughter, as it's been passed down through generations always to the eldest daughter. The older boy comes out as trans, and is now a girl. Should the mother switch who she gives necklace to?

I’d like to think the older sibling would relinquish her claim to the heirloom and that the younger would reciprocate in solidarity. If they can’t agree, neither deserves it. Anyway, heirlooms are just things, unless Christopher Walken hid it in his ass as a POW . . . Meh.

She should talk to them and figure out how they both feel about it... and whether she cares more about the tradition or keeping promises. Or you know, not build up a child's expectation of receiving a particular item their whole childhood.

As an MTG player, I need to know if the "eldest daughter" text resolves and targets a daughter at the time she comes into play, or at the time the inheritance effect is triggered. If the latter, no promise technically need be broken.
