What's the book you've read most for the reason that you wanted to feel impressive or accomplished for having read it?

I wanted to read that long before anyone I knew ever heard of it, or cared about it. I wanted to read it because it was fascinating. I made it maybe 1/4 of the way through even though it was fascinating. I read the whole I am a Strange Loop though. Great book.

That isn't the answer I just liked the tweet so I could remember to check out this book at some point; remember seeing it a long time ago thought it looked interesting and then forgot it's existence until now

I read GEB in 1983 and bought my own copy in 1986, which I’ve re-read several times. No one gave a fuck about it back then. (Also bought in 86 or so Richard Bach, Surely You’re Joking Mr Feynman, Atlas Shrugged, Selfish Gene, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance)

I read Gödel Escher Bach around the same time I read The Satanic Verses: because they both sounded way interesting. I only remember a few select things about TSV. But GEB was exactly what I hoped for, and I was impressed by it, not myself.
