1/ Over the past few weeks I've been thinking more about "public persona" - how careful should I be with it? How filtered? When the bestiality tweet went viral, literally thousands of people assumed I'm a dog fucker instead of realizing I'm a researcher who asks weird questions.

My model: literally dozens of people assumed you're a dog fucker, but thousands saw an opportunity to pile on / signal their tribe's morals / troll. Random-target-of-the-day. Being more careful with your words wouldn't change their behavior, so there's no point worrying about it.

I'm not worried about that in particular; I'm more worried about how to handle the impact stuff like this can have on associations with people who are much more concerned about their own reputations/might potentially make useful deals with me.
