The popularity of astrology is one of the few things that makes me feel really despondent about current culture. It seems such low hanging fruit for even a basic amount of self-skepticism. Can any astrology supporters explain why they believe it?

My favorite people who have interests in astrology basically seem to use it as a sort of Rorschach test, like a quasi-random generator of archetypes to play with. It’s theatre. You can take it too seriously, but same can be said of sports nerds, gamers, even cargo-cult science
