of my spiritual journey felt resonant with childhood - basically having to use intense self control and enduring high discomfort. I've also suspected that my difficult childhood helped boost me down the insight path. However, I ended up a suuuper undisciplined adult so idk.

Acid involved... Not self control? Depends on self and control. But definitely lots of discomfort, huge amounts of excruciating pain really. Spiritual journey since acid has been... Something's been happening and moving around without me "trying" for a few years now

That's the problem with childhood interventions. They can have huge effects and are super exciting until you realize they almost never stick.

getting discipline to contain certain brains seem fundamentally hard i think, they keep trying to crawl around the edges

Same, I was insanely disciplined with schoolwork while the story held up. Around 13 or 14 when the simple narrative lost its hold- that all turned upside down. I went from triple checking to never studying. Some effects persisted, I can't believe how long I avoided some sins
