In an old survey I did on psychedelics, the psychedelics rated as most likely to result in permanent belief changes were also the ones rated as having the greatest positive effects on the users' lives. 13 psychedelics measured, r=0.78

Yes, mescaline was in there, rated at 7/13 for both positive life effect and lasting altered beliefs, so solidly middle-of-the-road.
