But *why* is there personal disgust? I was raised extremely religious and as such had a disgust reaction when I was exposed to gay people - that reaction was completely socialized into me by my environment. Disgust reactions sometimes come *from* taboos.

Perhaps the danger that animals present? Biting, scratching, etc. Not that there isn't that risk with other humans, but it seems a lot riskier with a non-human. I mean, sex is vulnerable, what guy wants a hoof to their crotch?

because animals can't consent in the way that consent & language are understood. being assaulted by a human is sadly a common form of abuse that often leaves dogs with deep psychological scars.

My take: Disgust is a compound response, of separate yet related revulsion scales of biological instinct, socialization, aesthetic (learned), aesthetic (innate), fear, and empathy (imagining you're doing the act). Taboos are often based on a feedback loop of this comp. response.

Wheres the evolutionary advantage to animal attraction? There isnt so we developed disgust. It doesnt have to be all socially acquired.

I think disgust is a biologically (or/and evolutionary) imposed barrier designed to prevent behaviour that may be harmful or incongruent to furthering the development of the species. Such as eating poo, or sex with non-human animals.

Your socialisation claim is gratuitous. This is a chicken versus egg question. Gay sex *still* disgusts me (as do a lot of other consensual sexual practices), but that doesn't mean I disapprove of it. Why *wouldn't* disgust sometimes be innate? Is my dislike of celery socialised?
