Ok to everyone talking about consent: 1. Consent wasn't really a strong concept in past cultures; you could rape your wife nbd but still not fuck an animal 2. Even if you use that, we still don't consider consent valid for non-sexual violations of animals

There are a number of diseases that can be transmitted between species. I don't know how many of them are STDs. There are issues with consent too, as well as (for pets) the idea that they're kin (even though they're not blood)
-
Its hardly worse than slaughtering an animal or cutting off their balls without their concent. I'm not saying there aren't issues of concent, but clearly we as a society have decided that animal concent doesn't matter so it does not explain societal attitudes.

Yeah, seems close to gay activity tho? Homosexuality was shamed a lot in cultures, but also was approved of in some cultures too.

there was speculation that AIDS came from sex with apes. I don't know if that was ever verified
-
The commonly accepted scenario is the "hunter". Hunting apes and monkeys for meat has been common for a long time. The theory is that an infected ape transmitted it to a hunter via a cut in the human, not via sex.https://www.avert.org/professionals/history-hiv-aids/origin …

I don't know how large role this has played, but it is relevant and fun. In "Guns, Germs and Steel," Jared Diamond tells an anecdote of a man contradicting a disease from having sex with a sheep.pic.twitter.com/h45tdiC2Ya
