It’s not applicable to me, being a Brit but I think that by the time I’d taken all the precautions I felt necessary to avoid the gun being used against me, or by my kid then it would end up being no use to me if I had to react quickly to an intruder.

I remember reading a reddit thread of people who'd used self protection, and one story was "An insane guy was banging on my door, breaking into my house. I called the cops, on the way. The guy broke a window, was screaming, was getting in. I had my gun ready, shot him"

I think by the time he had got to that stage I would still be fiddling with the padlock. However, statistically he would be less likely to be carrying a gun here anyway so it’s a more even match.
