It’s not applicable to me, being a Brit but I think that by the time I’d taken all the precautions I felt necessary to avoid the gun being used against me, or by my kid then it would end up being no use to me if I had to react quickly to an intruder.

I remember reading a reddit thread of people who'd used self protection, and one story was "An insane guy was banging on my door, breaking into my house. I called the cops, on the way. The guy broke a window, was screaming, was getting in. I had my gun ready, shot him"

My first reaction: without a gun my chances of being successfully robbed are higher, but the chance of that robbery ending in my death or serious injury is much lower.
Bilateral guns make the extreme outcomes more likely. Instead, I should learn Muay Thai.

I've had a carry permit for nearly 4 decades. Got serious about practice, competition, & carry, after someone threw an ax at me from a passing vehicle. At least I've got something to fight back with if an attack persists.
