When someone says #IAmNonbinary, your gut intuitive process registers this primarily as:
A) A desire to signal that they have traits/preferences atypical for their birth sex ('man likes skirts')
B) They are neither male nor female
C) This is a symptom of trauma or mental illness

All personality is a symptom of trauma and mental illness? In Greek, ‘character’ means a brand used on a slave.

I speak Greek. Intuitively, the word "character" means sounds "carving" or a tool with which to make one. If I go and do the research, are you saying that I will find it eminating specifically from something to do with branding slaves?

i go with A. i have friends who like to cross dress, but identify as male while not. dude just goes with the flow, and i think thats a pretty solid definition of non binary.

I chose C as it was closest, but I feel the explanation is neither trauma or illness in many cases. Rather, many of these people have trouble with self esteem and gaining status among peers and become susceptible to philosophy that gives them a chance to heighten their status.

You could try asking them and listening, rather than relying on uninformed "gut intuitive process"...

Anecdotally it seems that females are more likely to identify as nonbinary. Which makes sense considering they’re the ones most at risk of being traumatized by society treating them as girls/women (i.e. poorly). The nb designation seems like an attempt to “opt-out” of womanhood.

Not mental illness necessarily, just that they are dissatisfied with their life/identity and want to feel special
