Do you have volitional control over the pressure in your ears? I.e. in an airplane, can you squeeze a certain muscle to relieve the pressure in your ears as the airplane ascends or descends?

But, it's not nearly as powerful as holding my nose and blowing.
I've had a bit of a cold over the last few days, and being able to flex my jaw muscles to alleviate pressure in my ear has been invaluable.
Do you mean perform a valsalva maneuver or en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valsalva_
equalize pressure hands-free?

Whoa wait, why is this so common? Do people not understand the question, or it’s way more common than earlier reports suggest, or there’s a crazy selection effect?

I am in this small fraction! I tried to explain this to my dad when I was a young child and he thought I was crazy. I can’t really explain what this thing is, but it’s super useful for helping with ear pressure. twitter.com/ManishEarth/st…

Of course. It’s called “swallowing”. In an exaggerated way.

I can also stop myself from sneezing and hiccuping voluntary too. I dont have flashy skills but there we go.
