I've been traipsing irresponsibility around the globe for years, climbing into vans with strangers, running off to remote castles on very little information, etc., but very little bad has ever happened to me. For example, I've never once been stolen from! What is going on?

Actual answer: most of the things people think of as dangerous actually aren't; having a weird, smart, and not poor social circle means being surrounded by people who are extremely unlikely to hurt you.

ok but my social circle was pretty poor. A lot of the people I traveled with were trash-eating hobos.
