I was homeschooled in Idaho- think cows and thrift stores - but the homeschoolers were all weirdly obsessed with high society etiquette. We learned elaborate table settings, who gets into which parts of the car in which order, ballroom dance steps, etc. Why do you think this was?

I think I've seen this sort of thing (from a bit afar), and it always struck me as "conservative Protestant quasi-separatism" of which homeschooling was just one expression.
