I have actually had this idea floating around my head for a couple of years now. And my answer is yes. A legal way to do this would probably settle disputes peacefully as conflicts by giving people time to rethink their conflicts. But it’s also a legal way to release aggression.

classic "duels" didn't often result in the death of anyone; to the death was already extreme a long time ago. consensual mutual combat is already legal; the problem is people no longer have a cultural roadmap for it; it's either heat of the moment or "win" by any means any time.
