You know, it took me about an hour to hash things out in my brain and sure my default was going to be to call the new guy at work by his correct pronouns. (He isn't on t.) I get it can take a min... WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. you need to work through some big damn issues. t.co/TMx2Ebc1qA

I'm confused by this. Nearly everybody on the street I see, walks straight by homeless people like they don't exist, and it's a common trope that people ask each other how they are but don't actually want to know. I'm not like... making some crazy claim here.

You're talking about actively perpetuating these behaviors. You say, with "we," that you don't make the effort to care about the people you talk to and you ignore homeless people on the street. And you assume the rest of us are "playing pretend" when we accept people's pronouns.

But... people literally ignore homeless people on the street. I'm not in crazytown, I watch this happen. I also walk past them - there's the same guy outside my house every day. I prefer donating to charities instead, which can help them better than I can.

Why? Why do you walk past homeless people without having a human interaction with them? Particularly if they're your neighbors! Why do you think the fact that other people ignore homeless people makes that any less heartless on your part? Socially permissible /= less heartless

Maybe you don't live in my area? In Seattle I made active friends with the homeless people - brought them food and gifts, hung out with them at night. Here, I live in the Bay Area with one of the worst homeless problems in the world. Things are very different.
