You know, it took me about an hour to hash things out in my brain and sure my default was going to be to call the new guy at work by his correct pronouns. (He isn't on t.) I get it can take a min... WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. you need to work through some big damn issues. t.co/TMx2Ebc1qA

And not to diminish the transphobia of the piece, @hehimbitch. I just... don't think we can expect this individual to treat other human beings as human beings. They appear to have extremely broad problems in this area that sound like they need some fucking therapy.

I am also totally baffled at the idea that we're "playing pretend" when using somebody's pronouns when we can equally say we're "playing pretend" when we reify modern European gender constructs. Like culture is literally constructed through public negotiation what.

Yeah, absolutely. Sometimes I feel this really strongly, like I'm going through the expected cultural steps of something feeling like i'm playing pretend in a kid's game. Only difference is, I don't feel afraid of saying this to people.

But it's you, here, many of us are not in any way pretending. We're negotiating our shared culture such that we can all flourish under by having genuine interactions with other individuals. The fact that you think we're all pretending is what disturbs me.

Maybe you don't feel like you're pretending, but I do. I don't mind if you don't feel like you're pretending, that doesn't impact me. What I do mind is that I feel not allowed to share my experience of pretending with others.

But this is an area you can do self work on. You're clearly permitting yourself not to do any self work in a wide variety of circumstances. You've made that completely clear in this conversation. You're sharing your unwillingness to do self work and trying to justify it.

In general I don't like conversations where people make such assumptions about other people's character. I'm not making them about yours, though I could if I wanted to play dirty. Move to San Francisco, I dare you to talk to every homeless person you pass.
