I absolutely think a lot (most? nearly all?) trans people are trans because of default brain wiring or something, but I wonder what percentage are MtF cause they felt like they could never be a successful man, and because there's a clear community/path to acceptance for trans ppl
I feel like I'm fighting against some sort of strong "this can definitely not be the case", here. Like, I want to have a less defensive conversation that still maintains a great deal of compassion. Absolutism I usually interpret as the person being very defensive.

You are seeing people being defensive because they defend themselves against an actively hurtful narrative. The vast majority of trans women have faced abuse driven by exactly the kind of ideas you speculate about.

This entirely.

Stop fighting. You have no stake in this, but how you characterize trans people, has a profound effect on them. You aren't being compassionate. You're being antagonistic and honestly cruel.

Maybe it might have something to do with the fact that you're a cis woman who has no damn business talking about who is and isn't "actually trans". You didn't come up with some novel theoretical, you're just saying the same shit as terfs

I dislike the idea that people can or can't talk about things. I invite you to talk about cis-ness, and cis people to talk about trans - and people of any group to speculate about any other group. I refuse to shut anyone up on the basis of who they are.

Fellow CIS woman here. Your speculation is belittling and disrespectful. You don't get to decide what hurts someone else, they do. If trans people are telling you this is harmful, it is.
