Please, actually copypaste? Because I agree the post is saying that transitioning did not give them what they want, but that doesn't mean they didn't do it because of social incentives.

I think I'm interpreting perceived social incentive as actual social incentive, but everything else (their own trauma) kinda fucked it up.

They do explicitly say "ideals", which is the sort of thing I'm referring to. For example, the "ideal" body shape in advertising is unrealistic, but people still try to get to it.
