If there is actual oppression, persecution and/or hatred then there is no need to ham things up. It only gives the people the opportunity to point out your spin and dismiss the topic wholesale.

Intentionally misleading, even for a good cause, gives fuel to the opposition. This would be detrimental to the minority in the long run.

But this well-intended sentiment is just as flawed, unfortunately. As worded, the opposition is detrimental to the minority anyway, so how much difference does a slight exaggeration make?
