My rules for polls:
1 Try to arrange options such that responses will be evenly split, unless minority opinion is surprising
2 Length of ~2-3 days
3 Be as precise as possible. People will !!! at tiniest ambiguity.
4 Polls that expose unintuitive differences between people do best
