It shows they spend more money, not that they get more goods and services for it. As points, it is entirely possible healthcare is included and constitutes a big chunk.

This is an interesting chart, but I would like to see this alongside additional data. For example the same concept, but comparing poorest 20% in the USA by income with the averages for other OECD countries. And then an explanation of the difference. ->

Canadian here. When I go to the states I’m always shocked at how cheap food and booze are.

Why consumption and not income or GDP per capita?
Seems a blatant attempt to fudge the numbers with a metric no one normally cares about that can be mistaken for "living standard" or "income" at first glance.
