Until neo Nazis stop using it, and like 50 years pass, the symbol is lost to history to only represent hate. Not recognizing that is ignorant at best and I wouldn't believe people saying anything else.

I would want to see it surrounded by other Buddhist symbols. I'm fine with Buddhists taking back the symbol, but they'd need to be fairly deliberate and careful about how they do it. I'm probably more optimistic about how that would turn out than warranted.
