And is there anyone who doesn’t deserve compassion?
-
I think once you get to know them, then you can love and have compassion for them. The challenge might be: to love someone you have to connect with them. If that person is an addict, connection can be very difficult. I’m just thinking outloud.

“Compassion is not a relationship between the healer and the wounded. It's a relationship between equals. Only when we know our own darkness well can we be present with the darkness of others. Compassion becomes real when we recognize our shared humanity.” ― Pema Chödrön

Communities need to learn the difference between having compassion towards X and enabling X to continue hurting others. Because there are those who will repeatedly seek out and then abuse people's compassion.
