Religionists looking to use gov't to protect Souls (whatever those are) blithely ignore that Mothers have the Natural Right to kill their babies. Been doin' it for millenia for a variety of reasons.

Natural Right =ing "non-interference by gov't", then YES. Many cultures wouldn't recognize a newborn as tribe-member unless mother brought it forward to be recognized as under her care/protection. This allowed mother to decide feasibility of raising it.

IMO the split is over "soul". Those who believe we've a responsibility to protect a fellow human due to their soul & godly dictates valuing such despise abortion/infanticide. Those who see god/soul notions as invalid can see the issue as one of societal respect towards mother.

I'm more likely to buy into concepts that I can take apart and figure out what they're made of. Soul is a concept that, when I take it apart, it seems to disappear completely, so I don't really use it.
