I have a friend who yells MONOPLOT whenever we're watching a movie in which the characters get into zany situations because of monogamy. It's caught on and now we all groan MONOPLOT together whenever the conflict would be immediately resolved with just a little polyamory.

What do you yell when poly’s predatorily go after monogamous relationships because they assume all bonds of connection are temporary and up for grabs?

Is polyamory compatible with civilization? Won't it lead to the same problem as polygyny, that is that unattractive men won't give a damn and might be more criminal?

Polyamory is not currently very widespread and it's an open question as to whether it will ever be.
A poly civilization could theoretically work well if one makes a lot of optimistic assumptions about the traits and behaviour of the people. In reality? Who knows.

We used to call these things MONOPROBLES. The funny thing is that most of these problems don't even require 'fully fledged' polygamy/polyamory but just a tiny bit of understanding and openness.

This feels a little like "Why does John Wick not just get a new puppy to replace his old one?" or "This romcom would be so much simpler if he was just gay and into his best friend". That "just" is doing a lot of work there.

Wow conflict resulting from breaking social conventions can be solved by having the characters adhere to different social conventions? What an insight!
