E.g., I'm ok with killing in self defense. If you want to call it "BRUTAL SLAUGHTERR", that's annoying but like, the label you slap on it, however sensationalist, doesn't change the underlying thing I'm discussing. If you wanna call it BRUTAL SLAUGHTERR then ok sure whatever

I didn't mean that abortion was self defense, I meant to show that I don't care what the label we use is, the thing we're talking about is the same regardless of the label, so I don't care as much what label we use - "baby" or "fetus"

Do you see you're doing exactly what you said freaked you out, "how good people were at rationalizing things then (and by extension, probably today too)"? You marginalize the "baby or fetus" with a rationalization that doesn't give the whole picture. It's a human life destroyed.

I didn't mean to equate abortion to self defense. I said self defense because I was trying to think of an unrelated example of a thing people approve of but could be sensationalized.
