I've recently been exploring therapy for my productivity issues - three sessions with two different therapists, and have been disappointed and surprised to find that the sessions are significantly less effective than basic techniques many of my friends use to help each other.

A lot of this stuff is 'in the water' - my community has sort of a generalized intuitive grasp about how to debug stuff. Some are doing effective self-training;
@QiaochuYuan did a 40 min session with me and it was more useful than my 3 hours of therapy combinedShow this threadThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

they're only able to adjust to what you need if you give them the opportunity to do so. three sessions is NOT enough. seriously, don't stop after barely starting

But the first 40 minutes was effective with another person who wasn't a therapist. One actual therapist proposed a theory for my behavior and I was like no, that's definitely not true, that doesn't match up with xyz, and they refused to update.

Most therapists have had much the same training/education. They're starting from the same point so the early path traveled is going to look very familiar at first.
