Beauty doesn't fade. Hotness fades. And frankly, we would all be a lot better off if it didn't exist at all.
I'm sure I'll get flack for saying that, from women who wield hotness, and from men who are addicted to it. But hotness deranges the world. It is the enemy of beauty.

Are you talking about very young guys who spend a large fraction of their time and effort augmenting signals of fertility and arousal? As an accomplished woman, I have a hard time imagining that sort turns your head.

The question is: what characteristics make a person attractive, and for what purpose? Claire may be an outlier, but men and women tend to prioritize very differently.

For this discussion, let’s accept that. Still, “short term mating” was a terrible strategy for women before reliable birth control, and an absurdly fantastic strategy for men. My contention is that our modern attractions overwhelmingly reflect that asymmetry.

I once sat down with a group of girls and we collectively went through a dating site, discussing the men amongst ourselves. I was shocked to find out they cared almost entirely about the photos and if the guy was ripped, while barely even glanced at the words.
i agree hotness is short term and bad mating strategy for women, and i'm down with women doing it less than men overall, but the hotness of men still does something really important

Yeah, up until that point I assumed they were looking for competence signalers to the same extent I was (job, intelligence, signaling).
