I want to read a book that explores odd/extreme cultural norms across time and location - like variations in coming of age, death, and marriage rituals, gender norms, war norms, labor norms. Any recommendations for something that's well researched and avoids sensationalism?

Thomas Sowell's culture trilogy (race & culture, migrations & culture, conquests & culture) would also fit and has a broader scope. Necessarily misses out on the level of detail of something like Albion's Seed, though.
