I want to read a book that explores odd/extreme cultural norms across time and location - like variations in coming of age, death, and marriage rituals, gender norms, war norms, labor norms. Any recommendations for something that's well researched and avoids sensationalism?

Broad span! But I’m pretty into Nordic rituals right now. I’d start with elder rituals like Ättestupa then fall into an internet worm hole from there

🤔 Marvin Harris’ Cows, Pigs Wars and Witches comes to mind
Sarah Blaffer Hrdy might be someone to look into too

This, my all time favorite, he doesn't use much euphemism to describe what he has to say

Yes it's def up my alley, I'm also looking for things slightly more general and non us-centric
