I had a consultation for plastic surgery today! I think I carry a lil social shame from 'caring so much about my appearance.' I'm not sure I actually mind my appearance so much as it feels incredibly advantageous to be more attractive, particularly if I'm public-facing.

I'm seeing a cultural shift where appearances become more and more valued (music, comedy, politics) and it's hard to see how that can happen if not at the expense of valuing merit. Isn't the whole point of rationalism to override the automatic judgements instilled by evolution?
