I'd argue that most racists aren't actually racist, they're culture-ist, it's just that race happens to correlate with culture a lot and gets used as a proxy.
Disagree strongly. I know many people of color who are well educated, “act white,” and still face discrimination. Despite having a degree from a top tier engineering school it took me 4 years to land a development job.
I was fired within 2 months at my first 2 jobs and then stuck in QA roles for a couple more years. At my current job I am objectively far more skilled than my peers.
Yeah, I definitely agree that not everybody is 'culturist' and some are actually racist.
I also am really confused about how to interpret anecdotes about personal discrimination. I mean this really genuinely, I just don't know how to parse it and I'd like to know how.
My first job I was judged harshly for not picking up several programming languages i had no experience with. I received no mentoring that you’d expect a new grad to receive. I got fired after two months.
