I feel like people are interpreting this tweet as saying people are doing something 'less bad' than racism. To be clear, viewing this through a 'culturist' lens doesn't seem any less bad to me.

Maybe better phrased as: "Most people are culturists, and the overlap between culture and race makes the world appear pretty racist."

That just sounds like racism with more steps
-
but.. i don't think so? Like, if someone of a different race successfully 'passes' for the same culture, they often get treated very well (though probably have to do more steps to prove adherence to the culture).

It's technically true, probably. 'Real racists' would still use the proxy as an independent predictor even when there are other observable factors nullifying it, though, and I don't think there are a lot of high-heuristic culture-ists who avoid this behavior.

You can replace culture-ist with classist and it works too

Racism is just another form of tribalism, which is an innate feature of human psychology and most other social mammals.
-
As evidenced by the way people self segregate into their own cultural/racial enclaves. An analysis of where the most woke choose to live would be quite revealing

This is straight up not true

Racism is people yelling out their car windows telling you to go back to your country. They don’t wait to figure out whether you watch the same tv shows or celebrate the same holidays
