And from a cosmic frame, we can't, really: we just create a "partial vacuum", and then rely on the weight of the atmosphere, caused by the gravity of the earth, to push the liquid up into our mouths. That we can articulate our lips well enough to create a suitable seal.

In a sense, the muscles of the lungs are pushing the atmosphere up, simultaneously reducing the pressure on the air inside the lungs and mouth, and then we "let the river flow" from higher to lower...
