It varies a lot by city. In some areas, bikes are way more viable for poor people. In others, it's terrible.

In any case it's not the fault of the workers. Those are things extremelly determined by the economic system. Nobody can really blame cars on workers. Everybody HATES to have to go very far to go to work...
