We often like to frame our ideas as subversive or 'hated by society' - but how do we tell? My favorite test is, "can your idea be used to sell a product?" If advertisers would use your concept or advertise alongside it, then your idea isn't subversive.

Yes, definitely. That's sort of the point - companies are riding off of the wave of 'this is subversive and brave' when it isn't anymore. These ads aren't run in places where it's still subversive - e.g., censorship of women in ads in Muslim countries
