We often like to frame our ideas as subversive or 'hated by society' - but how do we tell?
My favorite test is, "can your idea be used to sell a product?" If advertisers would use your concept or advertise alongside it, then your idea isn't subversive.

Also, Reddit refuses to let me run ads for Askhole.io, which I guess officially designates it as subversive. The bar to hit subversiveness is a lot lower than I thought.

One of the tragedies of modernity is that they've realized how many apparently-subversive things they can use to sell a product. (Like for instance "advertising lies and smart people ignore it".)

Toxic masculinity is subversive by this metric, since Gillette lost money when trying to use it in their advertising. Yeah, that seems fair.
