Got diagnosed with ADHD but getting a script is a nightmare. I've been in and out of clinics so many times. Today a doctor told me I'd have to go to therapy before getting a prescription cause I made the mistake of mentioning an abusive parent. I hate this system

These people keep telling me to make and show up for appointments in order to get help a prescription to fix my inability to do things like make and show up to appointments. Adderall lets me be normal - clean my room, run errands, but I can't fight the behemoth

It took almost 20 years before I got a doctor who even wanted to attempt to diagnose me. Finally saw one who made me do tests. Got diagnosed right away. He didn't want to give me meds either. Took till the second doctor I saw to prescribe me meds. They are a lifesaver.

If you are over the age of 25, they make it far harder to get these prescriptions, they're also ungodly expensive without insurance.

This is why when people talk about legalizing drugs, I wish they'd talk about prescription meds too. I have to go to the doctor every 4 months for anxiety meds. Not because they don't work or are dangerous for me, but because so pencil pusher said they are addictive.

Get a different doc. There’s large variability in Adderall stinginess between providers.

I tried once to seek help (maybe ADD?) and after an assessment I never got around to doing the followup appointments to find out the results because I'm so bad at keeping up with that sort of thing.

Don't try to fight ADHD, let yourself go ADHD for a bit, kind of get it out of your system, then you can focus better. It works with me.

Ever tried Adrafinil? It's not quite Adderall, but it's cheap and over the counter.

Yup … but it’s the same everywhere. When I needed help in New Zealand I was unable to jump through the government department hoops needed to get help. Thank the FSM my parents could afford to support me for several years, and everything fixed itself over time.
