I guess I'm defining poly as the orientation, rather than the habit; as in if you suddenly break up with your 3 girlfriends, you're still a polyamorous person, just single.

Sure, but once I made the call that it's just not an option unless I make more compromises than I am willing to (and get the wife to do the same in addition), it has become little more than a could-have-been. So on some level, yes, I may still be poly. But it's not a defining...
